Sketchbook

To begin this project I started it wrong so had to restart all from scratch. So when I did restart I took 21 pages of white and brown paper and bound them together using a large needle and wool. When I reread my brief I started my drawing a mind map to help me keep track of my ideas.
This page was my mind map page. I planned out all my ideas I could do for my sketchbook pages. For example; I chose 11 headings to look into deeper. These where; my mum and Andy (my step-dad), Meadowhall, places I have visited, Leo/family, Barnsley/ Yorkshire, How I travel places, pets, holidays, homes, college and Kendray

This page is all about me. It includes my photos, my favourite number, my nick name, my cards I use daily, and also my hand and finger prints.

On this next page I took 3 photos of myself from my childhood and described at what point in my childhood these were taken.
The first is of me when I was either 3 or 4 years old and Santa came to my nursery for the day, we had a face painter and a present give away.
The second is of me standing next to a statue of bob the builder. This was during a holiday I went on with my mum, step dad, auntie Sam, uncle Paul and their daughter Jessica. I was 7 at the time this was taken.
The last photo is of me on the beach where my granddad used sand to make it look like I was a mermaid. I was only five when I went to Spain on my first out of country holiday with my nannan Katrina and Granddad Chris. This was when this photo was taken on 12th May 20003.

This is a family photo which was taken in May of 1996, just after my auntie had given birth to her first daughter Ashleigh in the March of that year. The photo is of Susan Garner (my mum's mum), Jack Garner (Susan's husband, my mum's dad), and their 4 children. These are; Donna Harper (the oldest, the mother to Ashleigh and her second child Courtney), Samantha Meegan (mother to Jessica), Andrea Seddon (my mum) and Daryl Garner (who has recently found out he's having a baby boy soon).
To create this picture I traced the photo then painted it using watercolours.

This page was dedicated to when I found out the gender of my little bundle of joy. I went to my appointment with my mum and my boyfriend, (the father to our baby). At first only me and Aaron (my boyfriend) was allowed in the room to begin with. The woman told me to lay down and roll up my top to expose my bump so she could take the ultrasound. When she looked around, because of the way the baby was positioned she could find the heart beat so she told me to go for a walk and get some chocolate and a fizzy drink to try and encourage the baby to move so that she could check everything was okay. So we did that and went back again to the room 20 minuets later. When we did my mum still wasn't allowed in the room yet till she'd checked everything was good. When she'd checked the baby's heart beat was good and everything else was okay Aaron called my mum into the room to hear first hand the gender of her first grandchild. IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of us were very happy and relieved everything was okay with him.

On this page I have used three photos of my baby boy after he was born and only about 4 weeks old. Also on this page I described my labour which accrued on the 1st January 2015. My contractions began at around 11:30 am and I finally went to the hospital at about 6:45. I was examined at 7:30 and was told I was 5-6 cm dilated and was sent right to the labour ward. Then 1 hour and 2 minuets later, after only 3 big pushes, my amazing lovely little man was born.
People on this page are all my family. I will list them and how they are related to me.

Yorkshire Made Me.

This page was dedicated to the exhibition that was on at the Cooper Art Gallery Barnsley from July to October 2015. I went to this exhibition because I am from Yorkshire so this relates to the world I live in. The exhibition was based on a photographer's work in black and white coloured photos except one which was in full colour. I believe the photographer's are Jennifer Robertson and Lynne Fletcher. Some of the people who were featured include; Jim Carter, Simon Hirst & even Duncan Preston. If you didn't know already; Jim Carter is actor who plays Mr Carson on ITV's Downton Abby. Simon Hirst; who is now Stephanie Hirst, is an ex-radio presenter for Capital FM. Lastly Duncan Preston play's Doug Potts on Emmerdale.

Lisa Stubbs

As a child I watched hours of Take Hart doodling away with my felt tips in front of the gas fire munching on wagon wheels...
I am now an illustratior, screen printer, fabric artist, mum and dreamer, dancing in my kitchen in the beautiful Holme Valley, Yorkshire, England.
My work is inspired by my 3 fab children, family life and vintage children's picture books and I'm still fuelled by the odd Wagon Wheel.
See my inspiration and creative journey at 'Lil Sonny Sky , my online mental floss and sketch book.
Thank you for stopping by.

My favourite book. This is a book by C. S. Lewis. Her 1950's publication of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is one of my all time favourite books and has been for years. Lewis's publisher, Geoffrey Bles, allowed him to choose the illustrator for the novel and the Narnia series. Lewis chose Pauline Baynes, possibly based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s recommendation. Baynes had greatly impressed Tolkien with her illustrations for his Farmer Giles of Ham (1949). However, Baynes claimed that Lewis learned about her work after going into a bookshop and asking for a recommendation for an illustrator who was skilled at portraying both humans and animals. In December 1949, Bles showed Lewis the first drawings for the novel, and Lewis sent Baynes a note congratulating her, particularly on the level of detail. Lewis’s appreciation of the illustrations is evident in a letter he wrote to Baynes after The Last Battle won the Carnegie Medal for best children’s book of 1956: "is it not rather 'our' medal? I’m sure the illustrations were taken into account as well as the text". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion,_the_Witch_and_the_Wardrobe

Joseph Cornell

Joseph Cornell (December 24, 1903 – December 29, 1972) was an American artist and sculptor, one of the pioneers and most celebrated exponents of assemblage. Influenced by the Surrealists, he was also an experimental filmmaker. Cornell's most characteristic art works were boxed assemblages created from found objects. These are simple shadow boxes, usually fronted with a glass pane, in which he arranged eclectic fragments of photographs or Victorian bric a brac, in a way that combines the formal austerity of Constructivism with the lively fantasy of Surrealism. Many of his boxes, such as the famous Medici Slot Machine boxes, are interactive and are meant to be handled.
This was my 3D workshop artist research and also the inspiration for my final piece.
Van Gogh

Van Gogh is one of my favourite artist. I have always liked his work from the Café Terrace at Night, to Poppies in a vase and even Portrait of Dr. Gachet. These are all inspirational to me in different ways with his techniques and use od brush strokes on the canvases. I like how he doesn't limit himself to one media but instead used a variety of them to all his work. For example; he used pencil and transparent watercolour, on watercolour paper to create the original piece of work on the right > .
For the Café Terrance on the Place du Forum & Vase with Red Poppies, Van Gogh used oil paints on a canvas for them both.

You can see Van Gogh's work on his website : http://www.vangoghgallery.com/

Self-Portrait 1907
Picasso

Pablo Picasso is another of my favourite painters. I love how he is a cubist artist and it really shows in his work. For my research into Picasso I decided to do a critical study of his self-portrait from 1907. To do this I used acrylic paints on my brown paper background in my sketchbook. To be honest I think that it came out rather well apart from his left eye was a tad bit too thin compared to the original. I believe I have used the acrylics well to create and match the colours from his work and tried to make sure that the black lines are all the correct width and in to right places. I also like how the background came out in the end, in the duration of me painting this section of the piece of work, I didn't think it look right but now finished I see that it is very close to the original and I can say I am proud of this critical study.

Bob Ross

This is my favourite artist of all time. I love everything about him. The fact that he can stand in a black room with his paints, a canvas, and easel and talk to a camera whist painting an amazing complex painting in only 30 minuets approx. astonishes me and gives me great passion to aim to be able to follow in his foot steps. Also I know for a fact that before he started his show; "The Joy of Painting", he was self-taught to paint. before he did he also taught his son to paint in the same style as he did and then his son took over his show once Bob passed away. His son did a great job taking over the show but he could never replace such a fantastic artist like his father, Bob Ross.

To get around the Barnsley area I mostly use the local Stagecoach bus service. As I live in Kendray I can only catch bus number 6 as this is the only one which takes a route through Kendray which is the area in Barnsley I live in. I have collected many bus tickets and put them in my sketchbook so emphasise how often I used the bus to get to town and everywhere else. I have also put in an old weekly £12.50 pass which allows 6 days of unlimited travel around the south Yorkshire area. I decided to draw with an HB pencil and use colouring pencils to create an image of what the Stagecoach buses look like from the back
