My Personal Statement
Pablo Picasso
said; “Painting is just another way of keeping a diary”. This quote has
inspired me to work for what I want in life due to the fact that the quote is
basically telling people to express how they feel, their thoughts and express
it out loud. This is how I feel I could be if I was to achieve my goals. My
aspiration is to be a graphic designer in the future. I have found that it will
be difficult to accomplish my ambition but I am still enthusiastic that with
hard work and dedication, I will be able to stride into my chosen career if I
work for it.
I find delight in undertaking art as a form of
voicing my state of mind in a creative way. I believe I have the accurate
skills and the correct frame of mind to be able to achieve high in the career I
am aiming for. I know that throughout the duration of my life there will be
more to do than just painting pictures all day. There will be essays to write,
research to do and all whist building my portfolio up into something that will
help show my skills off to the world of business.
From the year
2001 I have been devoted to working hard to collect as many achievements as
possible to help better me for myself and my future. These consist of; Sure
Start Logo Competition (2001) Young Leader Award (2009), Playing For Success
(2010), Junior Achievement Award (2010), Peer Mentor Attendance Certificate
(2011), Peer Mentoring Award (2012), Work Experience Attendance Certificate
(2013) & also UCB Mentoring Project (2012-13). From all these occasions I
have gained many expertise. For example; I am responsible, very well organised,
I have good time management skills, abilities in the 3D & Textiles regions
of art, I have a good computer background (so I can research things well; such
as secondary research), I am good working on paper and I plan before doing
things so there is not many occasions where it goes wrong.
I have used
these skills in many types of jobs and voluntary work since 2009. These were
the following; being a volunteer at Barnsley Riding for Disabled Association,
being a newspaper distributor for the Barnsley Independent, my year 10 work
experience as a shop assistant at B.Mills & Co. in Wombwell and finally,
working as a peer mentor at both Barnsley Academy & also at the Barnsley
Summer Challenge scheme run by the YMCA members.
The artist
which have inspired me are; Bob Ross, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia
O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse & Charles Rennie Mackintosh. All for
many reasons, firstly they may all be passed but still famous and recognised,
secondly they all have their own techniques and methods to do art but they are
all at the same level in my eyes, and finally they have all undertaken different
obstacles in their own lives but overcome them and carried on. This is very
inspirational to me as an artist.
I have visited
many places in my 18 years of living but none of them can compare to when I
visited Cairo & Luxor in Egypt. The Pyramids, The Sphinx and also the
museum I went to with my family was amazing. All of these combined factors have
made me keen to try and use the Egyptian theme as often as I could.
My artistic ambitions are
to become either a graphic designer or a cake decorator. No matter which one I
finally choose, my main aspiration will remain the same; to have people buy my
work. To have this come to pass, will be more of an achievement than anything I
could imagine in the world of work. To have people come to me and ask me to
create either something special for the wedding, birthday, special occasions
etc. or either someone asking me to use my skills to create something that will
be seen by many people would make all my hard work worthwhile.
