This is a childcare Level 2 course with a duration of 12 months at Barnsley College. The weekly wage is £122.10 to work Monday to Friday (37 hours per week). The apprenticeship reference number is VAC000732329 and on the 4/11/15 they have only 1 position available to possibly start on 23rd November 2015.

•To ensure the provision is of good standard

•To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times

This is a horse care Level 2 course with a duration of 12 months at Barnsley College. The weekly wage is £99.00 to work Monday to Friday (30 hours per week). The apprenticeship reference number is VAC000729751 and on the 4/11/15 they have only 1 position available to possibly start on 30th November 2015.

The job will involve day to day care of horses:

•Mucking out

•Bedding down

•Feeding

•Changing rugs

•Grooming

•Bathing

•Holding horses for vets, farriers, dentists etc.

•Tacking up

•Getting them ready for competition

•General yard duties




Requirements and prospects

Desired skills:

•Candidate must have a genuine interest in working with animals.

•Candidate must be willing to carry out a manual job role and work outdoors.

The apprenticeship I am looking at lastly is;


This is a catering course with a duration of 12 months at Elephant & Castle. The weekly wage is £99.00 to work on a rota basis (30 hours per week). The apprenticeship reference number is VAC000698365 and on the 4/11/15 they have only 1 position available to possibly start on 22nd November 2015.

An opportunity has arisen for a Catering Apprentice to work in a busy kitchen in Hemmingfield, Barnsley. Some experience is required but full training will also be given.
Our client is looking for someone who has a passion for food, an out-going personality and a real drive to succeed within the industry.

Duties to include:

•Assist more senior chefs in preparing meals in either part or in full

•Responsible for executing allocated dishes on time to the required standard

•Work as part of the kitchen team under the direction of the head chef, sous chef and chef de parties to support the demands of the kitchen.

•Work in a clean and tidy manner

•Maintain a positive and pro-active attitude at all times

•Actively seek to improve skills and achieve personal development

•Comply with all health and safety regulations.

•Perform other duties as assigned by management

Things to consider: The pub can be very busy at times so you will be required to work under pressure. There will be a need to remember long orders so you can process these correctly and by nature, this role involves long periods of time spent physically active. The pub is open in the evenings and weekends and applicants must be flexible to work these hours on a rota as required.

About the employer

The Pub dates back to the 17th century when it was a coaching Inn.
Over the years, it has had many alterations and refurbishments.
  In the latest refurbishment, just a few months ago, the actual layout was kept the same but we now have a well-established bar area as well as a well-equipped dining area. 
The heavy furniture sits on extremely lush carpeting giving the pub a very plush and up market feel to it.

You will follow an Intermediate Diploma Level 2 in Catering, personalised by Independent Training Services to meet your needs [apprentice] and the employer, delivered on and off the job by an ITS Training Manager. Functional skills ICT, Maths and English will also be included when needed.
On completion of your apprenticeship, you will gain a Nationally Recognised Qualification with the opportunity to progress further.
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £2.73 per hour. From October 1st 2015 it increases to £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
The Wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
